Words from the following lists can be used to supplement or replace the spelling lists included in Essentials 1st edition.
The purpose of the spelling lists in Essentials is to guide students in applying the phonograms and spelling rules and learn how English spelling works, deeping their phonemic awareness, phonetic knowledge, reading, and spelling skills while learning about the spelling of individual words. This happens most effectively with words that students do not know how to spell already, so students already familiar with the spelling of the words in the Essentials 1st edition lessons will benefit from using words from the advanced lists instead.
The Advanced List for each lesson uses the same phonograms and spelling rules as the list included in the Essentials lessons, but the vocabulary is more advanced. This free resource is a perfect supplement for those reviewing Essentials a second year or for providing an additional challenge the first time through for older students and those who have already completed Logic of English Foundations.
Lists 1-4 and 5-8 also include videos! See Denise Eide teach the words and model the process of spelling analysis used in Logic of English lessons.
