Introducing A-Z Phonogram songs!

Parents and teachers have asked us for phonogram songs for years. We're happy to announce that A-Z songs are here!

Jill Pearson has written and recorded incredible songs introducing all the sounds of each letter, with playful lyrics and fun, catchy tunes! Our new album includes twenty-six delightful songs that kids and adults will love, including "Fine and Fancy Fisherman: The sound of F," "Bugle Music Everywhere: The four sounds of U" and more.

Doodling Dragons ABC Songs
Available NOW at the Logic of English Store and from Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Play, iHeartRadio and more!

Behind the music:
Artist, singer, and songwriter Jill Pearson

Jill Pearson is a busy and talented lady!

An artist and art teacher as well as a musician, Jill collaborated with Logic of English on several other creative projects before writing and recording the ABC songs on our new album.

In 2017, Jill illustrated Miles and Jax (which just won an award) and Miles and Jax: Master Planners. This past year she has been guiding teen artists from our community through the process of illustrating the Young Artist Series readers for Foundations B. Meanwhile, Jill is also running an art studio and continuing other creative projects of her own.

We are proud to be able to share Jill's new ABC phonogram songs with you! We love them, and we're pretty sure you and your kids will too.

Our new Foundations B Readers, the Young Artist Series, are at the press!

The young illustrators have completed their artwork, and our new set of eight additional readers for Foundations B should be available for purchase by the end of the year.

We will continue selling the books individually in PDF form until the printed books arrive and we shift to selling the set! We are releasing them one at a time, and seven of the eight are already available. Shop now!

We've loved the enthusiastic response to the giveaways on our social media channels as we have released each new story in the set! There are more to come, so follow our Facebook page, Twitter feed, or Blog if you'd like your chance to get the last two for free! (Hint: you might want to stop by today...)

Phonics, Sight Words, and Reading in the news

There's been a lot of buzz about reading and best practices for literacy instruction in social media and the news lately. Much of it stems from Emily Hanford's recent documentary from APM Reports: Hard Words: Why aren't kids being taught to read?

The documentary explores what evidence-based research shows about how kids learn to read, the disconnect between the science of reading and how many American students are actually taught, and how, often, research-based practices are missing from both curriculum and teacher preparation programs. Check it out, discuss, and share!

Hanford also has a shorter piece in this week's New York Times: Why Are We Still Teaching Reading the Wrong Way?

What's the difference between a loan word and an English word with foreign roots?
Some Logic of English spelling rules specify "English words" and "foreign words." Aren't most English words from other languages, though?
