Foundations D

Foundations Level D BadgeFor the student who has mastered the phonograms, spelling rules, and words in Levels B and C. In Level D, the world of real books is thrown open. In addition to mastering the remaining phonograms and spelling rules, students continue to work on developing speed and accuracy in reading. Lessons also include beginning composition skills. Each week, students will be assigned a well-known children’s book. Since every linguistic concept and “tricky” word in the book has already been taught, students are equipped for success and prepared to focus on deeper comprehension skills. Upon completing Level D, students will have mastered the tools needed to read 98% of English words and are prepared for independent reading at a second grade level.

 

    Upon completion of Level D students will:

  • Be able to read all 74 basic phonograms and 2 Advanced phonograms
  • Know an additional 10 Spelling rules
  • Independently read typical Level 1 and 2 readers
  • Write a sentence with minimal help
  • Begin to express himself through writing
  • Identify the problem in a fictional story
  • Express how the problem was solved during the story
  • Order the sequence of events in a fictional story
  • Identify the main character in a story
  • Read simple abbreviations such as Mrs. and Mr.
  • Read contractions and identify the two words that are represented
